VICRYL PLUS SUTURES

Cascade HealthCare Products carries Coated VICRYL Plus Antibacterial (Polyglactin 910) Suture, a synthetic absorbable, sterile, surgical suture composed of a copolymer made from 90% glycolide and 10% L-lactide. The suture contains Irgacare MP (triclosan), a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent, which provides protection against colonization of the suture by bacteria commonly associated with Surgical Site Infections. Bacteria it protects against includes: Staphylococcus aureus; Staphylococcus epidermidis; Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA); and Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus epidermidis (MRSE).

Coated VICRYL Plus Antibacterial Suture is indicated for use in general soft tissue approximation and/or ligation, except for ophthalmic, cardiovascular and neurological tissues.

The use of antibacterial sutures may be a reasonable precaution in women who already have an intrauterine infection, particularly when a woman's immune system is weakened due to malnutrition, infection or other illness or when anal structures need repair (Healing Passage, 2010).
